From the look of the ‘El Sackico Derby’, it was clear who should lose his job. But with the game ending in a draw, it has bought Carrick a little more time, even though he is still under great pressure to win a match. United take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday at the Metropolitano. Are we going to see the same lazy performances, where we cannot even defeat 10 men, or will we see a better performance that can save Carrick’s job?

Desperate for a positive spark to reinvigorate their season, struggling Manchester United will travel to face in-form Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday for matchday two of the Champions League league phase.

Los Rojiblancos are eyeing a fifth win on the bounce in midweek, while the Red Devils are looking for their first win in five games.

Rumors are circulating that Manchester United are on the hunt for their next manager. The leading candidates are Conte, Nagelsmann, and Eddie Howe. This would be the 13th managerial change in 13 years since Sir Alex Ferguson left, if it happens. What do you think? Should we still give Carrick time to fix his mess, or should we move on quickly and try to save the season? Tell us what you think below.

Left to me, he should leave. I never wanted him in the first place because I could see the problems during the West Ham and Leeds games last season. He is not technically gifted, and he has been outclassed in almost every game, especially when the opposition plays with a back three. It is ironic, or should I say funny?

But then, will the board really sack him and lose money? That has been their excuse since INEOS took over. The rot starts from the TOP. Michael Carrick accepted this rot by not replacing Shaw, not buying a better CB and striker, and reintegrating Rashford. Come on, you built this sinking ship, and the fans saw it coming and protested against it. Let us know your thoughts below. We will write more on this topic, I assure you.

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick's Man United have endured a dire season so far, and it would be a surprise to see them turn things around on Tuesday. Serious questions are being asked, and the pressure is clearly getting to him, especially with his in-game management. We saw it against Spurs when they received a red card.

He tends to be reactionary instead of proactive. He already has a plan, and when things don't go the way they are supposed to, he just continues with what he has planned and makes matters worse. Boos were ringing out during the Spurs match, leaving supporters with little reason for optimism after a four-game winless run across all competitions.

The Red Devils were 4-0 victors over debutants Sabah in their Champions League opener, though they have failed to win any of their four outings since.

After consecutive defeats against Manchester City and Brighton and Hove Albion, Carrick's men were held to back-to-back 1-1 draws, including a humiliating stalemate with 10-man Tottenham. The Londoners earned a deserved point at Old Trafford thanks to a 92nd-minute header from Dominic Solanke.

Those searching for hope despite the odds in midweek could look to the Red Devils' record against Spanish sides, which has seen them lose just one of their last 11, winning seven times and drawing on three occasions.

That being said, United have not beaten Atletico Madrid in any of their previous four competitive meetings, losing twice in the process and going out 2-1 on aggregate in their most recent encounter during the 2021-22 Champions League round of 16.

The only positive for this match is that when we faced them during pre-season, the Red Devils came from a goal down to win 2-1.

Diego Simeone's Atleti have enjoyed a strong campaign so far, and after picking up where they left off before the international break, they will be confident of success on Tuesday.

Los Rojiblancos overcame 10-man Alaves 2-1 on Saturday, courtesy of a first-half opener from Alejandro Grimaldo and a late winner from former Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero, who was the man of the match when Spurs beat United in the 2025 Europa League final.

That latest victory for Simeone's side mirrored the scoreline from the Madrid derby on September 20, another triumph that saw Grimaldo set the tone with the first goal.

However, while Atletico will head into this clash on the back of a four-game winning streak, they have only come out on top in two of their last 15 matches against English teams, drawing three and losing 10, including their 2-1 defeat to Liverpool on September 9.

On the other hand, the La Liga club have only lost two of their 19 fixtures against English opponents in Spain, winning nine and drawing eight. Their most recent result in this run was a 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the first leg of last season's Champions League semi-final.

Just like every Manchester United supporter all over the world, we cannot wait for all this drama to be over because we are just waiting for the worst. Will they surprise us?

PREDICTION
I will be honest; I am not motivated to make a prediction. I can only see a defeat, and I am just praying it is not an embarrassing one. I am happy Baleba is here; at least we won't be totally lost in the middle.

Atletico Madrid are in strong form and will be confident on home turf against a struggling opponent, coming into this showdown on the back of a four-game winning streak. The Red Devils may have beaten Sabah 4-0 on matchday one, but they are unlikely to walk away with even a point from Tuesday's clash, having failed to win any of their last four matches.
Atletico Madrid 4 – 1 Manchester United

MbappΓ©, Bellingham and Messi Light Up World Cup Quarter-Finals

2026 FIFA WORLD CUP QUARTER FINALS By: Babatunde Ajibade (World Cup correspondent) Facebook: Babatunde Olatunji AjibadeΒ Β Β  Twitter: ollyzjinx01Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Instagram: sir_ajirowo01 As the tournament draws closer to its end, the excitement just keeps growing. The biggest players continue to show up on the biggest stage with brilliant goals, crunching tackles and unbelievable saves. The quarter-finals were no different. This World Cup may have been longer than previous editions, but one thing is certainβ€”it has delivered. Β  France took on Morocco in the opening quarter-final, and for me, Morocco gave France far too much respect. From the way the coach set up the team, it looked like they were more concerned about stopping France than hurting them. France, on the other hand, came out like a team on a mission. Β  MbappΓ© missed a penalty in the first half, but that didn't stop him. He responded with a brilliant finish after the break to put France ahead. It was his eighth goal of the tournament, drawing him level at the top of the Golden Boot race. He has now scored 20 goals in World Cup history. At this rate, I honestly believe he will surpass Messi's record before he retires. Β  DembΓ©lΓ© also got on the scoresheet to seal a 2-0 victory and send France into their third semi-final in the last three World Cups. You can already see they have one eye on another final, and I'm sure they'll be hoping for another meeting with Argentina to get revenge for that unforgettable defeat in the 2022 World Cup final. But before dreaming about that, they must first get past Spain. Β  The 2010 World Cup winners, Spain, faced Belgium in the second quarter-final, and what a game it was. It started at a frantic pace, then slowed down for a while before bursting back into life again. Β  Fabian Ruiz, a surprise starter with Pedri beginning on the bench, gave Spain the lead. Belgium responded just 11 minutes later through De Ketelaere. The second half belonged largely to Spain, but the biggest turning point came when Thibaut Courtois picked up an injury and had to be substituted. Β  Lammens came on in goal, while Spain introduced their own game changer, Mikel Merino. Once again, just like he did against Portugal in the Round of 16, Merino delivered when his country needed him most. He reacted quickest after CubarsΓ's effort slipped through Lammens' hands to score the winner and send Spain into their first World Cup semi-final since lifting the trophy in 2010. Β  Can Spain go all the way again? Β  One thing is worth remembering. Spain have beaten France in their last two meetings, including that memorable victory at the European Championship. So, I definitely wouldn't rule them out. But who do you think reaches the final? Let me know in the comments. Β  Norway against England had all the ingredients of a classic. Haaland versus Kane. Ødegaard versus Bellingham. Everywhere you looked, those were the headlines, and thankfully, the match lived up to the hype. Β  England controlled possession early on but struggled to break down Norway's disciplined defence. Everything changed after the hydration break. Norway became the better side, and they got their reward when Schjelderup's crossβ€”well, I'm still not sure whether it was a cross or a shotβ€”completely fooled Jordan Pickford and found the back of the net. I was just as confused as Pickford. Β  Norway should have doubled their lead moments later, but SΓΈrloth chose not to square the ball to Haaland. The Manchester City striker was unusually quiet for long spells and looked like he might produce another late moment of magic like he did against Brazil. Β  Instead, it was his friend Jude Bellingham who stole the spotlight. Β  Bellingham drove into the box from midfield, collected Gordon's cross and calmly slotted the ball into the far corner to level the score. Both goalkeepers then produced outstanding saves to force the game into extra time, but football can be cruel. Β  The same man who rescued Norway against Brazil, goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, became the villain. He spilled a straightforward effort from substitute Morgan Rogers, and Bellingham reacted quickest to fire home his second goal of the match. That took his tally to six goals at this World Cup. Β  No English player has ever scored more non-penalty goals in a single World Cup than Jude Bellingham. Β  Can the Three Lions finally win their second World Cup? Β  The final quarter-final saw Argentina take on Switzerland in a match that was much tighter than many expected. The Swiss started brightly and looked the better side early on, but Argentina reminded everyone why they are the reigning world champions. Alexis Mac Allister, one of the shortest players on the pitch, rose highest to head home from a Lionel Messi corner and give La Albiceleste the lead. That assist was Messi's second of the tournament and his 10th in FIFA World Cup history. Β  To Switzerland's credit, they never stopped believing. They continued to control large spells of the game and got the equaliser they deserved through Dan Ndoye early in the second half. However, the turning point came just minutes later when Breel Embolo received a second yellow card for simulation after a VAR mistaken-identity review. I honestly couldn't understand that decision from Embolo. Your team had Argentina under pressure, pushing for a winner, and you chose that moment to go down looking for a foul. For a player of his experience, it was a needless mistake that completely changed the game. With neither side able to separate themselves after 90 minutes, the match went into extra time. Switzerland gave everything, but Argentina's quality finally told in the second half of extra time. JuliΓ‘n Álvarez produced a stunning strike before Lautaro MartΓnez added the killer goal with a calm finish to seal a 3-1 victory. The reigning world champions are through to the semi-finals, where England now stand in their way. Β  The Golden Boot race is becoming even more fascinating. At this rate, don't be surprised if the winner finishes with double figures. Β  Lionel Messi and Kylian MbappΓ© lead the standings with eight goals each. Β  Erling Haaland follows with seven, while Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham are right behind on six. Β  In the assist rankings, Michael Olise still leads the way with five assists. Β  Semi-final Fixtures Β  πŸ‡«πŸ‡· France πŸ†š πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ Spain Β  🏴 England πŸ†š πŸ‡¦πŸ‡· Argentina Β  Who do you think will qualify for the final? Β  Who has scored the best goal of the tournament so far? Β  And which goalkeeper has produced the save of the tournament? We've seen some absolutely incredible stops throughout this competition. Β  Overall, what has been your impression of the quarter-finals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup? Β  Which moment stood out the most for you? Β  Drop your thoughts in the comments. Β

Why Dembele would be a worthy Ballon d'Or winner

It is the year 2025, and the frontrunner to win the Ballon d'Or is Ousmane Dembele, forward for Paris Saint-Germain and the France national team. The road to this point has been far from smooth, but this is the end point nonetheless. PSG are the undisputed and unquestionable kings of Europe, winning the European Cup in any format for the first time in their history - a significant feat not just for a team only founded in 1970, but one for the Qatari Sports Investment project which has been hell-bent on continental domination since their takeover in 2011. Luis Enrique's side will be remembered for years to come for their tiki taka-lite style based on fluidity and slick possession football, and at the forefront of their success has been Dembele. With the Ballon d'Or now judged on a seasonal basis - as should have always been the case, thank you, France Football - it is a campaign that should end with Dembele lifting the prestigious Golden Ball in his home country.

Russia, Ukraine each free first 390 prisoners in start of war's biggest swap

Historic Exchange Under Istanbul Agreement In the largest prisoner swap since the full-scale war began, Russia and Ukraine have each released 390 prisonersβ€”comprising 270 military personnel and 120 civiliansβ€”as part of an overall 1,000-for-1,000 agreement negotiated during direct talks in Istanbul earlier in May. BBC+4www.ndtv.com+4Deutsche Welle+4Anadolu AjansΔ±+15Reuters+ Β  Departures and Arrivals Ukrainian returnees arrived in the Chernihiv region, many visibly frail with shaved heads and draped in national flags, greeted by emotional reunions with relatives amid cheers and tears. Russian returnees, including soldiers and civilians captured during a Ukrainian incursion into Kursk region, were first transported to Belarus for medical and psychological evaluation before being repatriated ussia.Β  BBC+3Reuters+3 The Guardian +3. Β  Emotional Homecomings and Lingering Uncertainty Families crowded the exchange sites, clutching photographs of missing loved ones, hoping for a clue from those stepping off the buses. One Ukrainian newly freed veteran, held for more than 830 days, encouraged others not to lose hope: β€œIn every prison there are many guys who had no contact with their relatives. I was the same,” he said The Guardian+10The Washington Post+10The Guardian+10. But for many, the reunion came with heavy uncertainty about family members still unaccounted for. Β  Political Messages and Future Prospects President Volodymyr ZelenskyyΒ hailed the swap as the only tangible outcome of the Istanbul talks and emphasized continued efforts to bring all detainees home. Hromadske The Washington PostThe Guardian. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov promised that Moscow would submit a draft peace proposal following the exchange but reiterated refusal of a ceasefire unless certain conditions were metβ€”terms Ukraine has rejected, according to Reuters TheΒ Guardian. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who helped push for the Istanbul negotiations, congratulated both parties via his social media platform, calling the swap a possible step toward broader peace, though no ceasefire has been agreed upon, according to Reuters and the NewΒ York Post. Β  Humanitarian Milestone Amid Ongoing Conflict This first phase swap underscores a rare moment of cooperation in a conflict that has otherwise deepened across Ukraine’s eastern and southern regions. While a few hundred lives have been restored to families, thousands remain in captivity, and both sides show no signs of halting hostilities. Negotiations may continue in coming days as both governments prepare for the next instalment of releases under the "1,000-for-1,000" agreement. For now, the tranche of 390 each represents the largest exchange of its kind since the war began.

High Stakes at Selhurst Park as Manchester United Face In-Form Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace Vs Manchester United Preview By: Babatunde Ajibade (Manchester United correspondent) Facebook: Babatunde Olatunji AjibadeΒ Β Β  Twitter: ollyzjinx01Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Instagram: sir_ajirowo01 Β  Manchester United head to Selhurst Park under heavy pressure and even heavier scrutiny after a disastrous showing at Old Trafford against Everton. The boos that echoed around the stadium said it all. Losing 1–0 to a 10-man Everton side β€” and conceding after they went a man down β€” was embarrassing on every level. From the touchline to the pitch, it was shambolic. Many fans are asking the same question: How much more can the board tolerate before admitting the Amorim experiment has failed? Β  United have not scored against Crystal Palace in their last four meetings β€” and after the lifeless performance against Everton, confidence isn’t exactly flowing. Starting a match with five defenders against a team reduced to ten men was baffling. Shifting Amad into unfamiliar positions didn’t help either. The tactical confusion is becoming a weekly theme, and now they travel to a stadium where their recent record is terrible. The international break may have come at the worst possible time. United had built momentum with 11 points from five Premier League games, but that form now looks like it was papering over deeper cracks β€” cracks that were fully exposed on Monday night. The Red Devils are barely hanging on to a top-half spot. They’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in five straight matches and continue to struggle away from home. Their London record is even worse: 16 losses in their last 26 Premier League games in the capital β€” the worst of any top-flight side during that period. Β  A painful stat surfaced recently: Amorim: 9 wins in 35 Premier League games, Ten Hag (same period last year): 23 wins. The numbers speak for themselves. Poor in-game management. Poor structure. Poor identity. United ended the Everton defeat with 25 attempts β€” but scored none β€” while conceding from the only shot they faced. Their xG tells the same story: xG For: 20.1 β†’ actual goals: 19 (two were own goals) Conversion rate: 10.4% β€” 7th worst in the league They create chances, but they can’t finish them. Β  Crystal Palace, on the other hand, are flying. Only Arsenal have conceded fewer Premier League goals this season. Oliver Glasner’s side sit fifth and have kept three straight clean sheets against Wolves, Brentford, and Brighton. Their defensive confidence is sky-high, and recent history backs it up: Three wins in their last four league games vs Man United (D1) Two wins in their last four at Selhurst Park vs Man United Opta supercomputer predictionsΒ  says Palace to win is 54.1% United aren’t just underdogs, they’re clear underdogs. So here we are again, asking what has become a weekly question for Manchester United supporters: Will this team finally show 90 minutes of concentration and courage or will they crumble, invite pressure, and rely on another desperate comeback attempt? Comment below with your score predictions! Β  Manchester United record against Crystal Palace: Games won: 41 Games drawn: 14 Games lost: 13 Β  Β  Team News: (As of today 29/11/2025,) Crystal Palace: Caleb Kporha, Borna Sosa, Cheick Doucoure , Chadi RiadΒ  and Rio Cardines are out for this game. Manchester United: Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Harry Maguire are out for this game. Β  Β  Prediction: United sometimes deliver when everyone has written them off, and they should have more energy than Palace. But this team has a habit of sleeping through the first half, and Selhurst Park is a brutal place for a team low on confidence. Crystal Palace 1-1 Manchester United. Β  Β

Arsenal's title hopes fading as City do Liverpool a huge favour

Arsenal and Manchester City played out a dramatic 1-1 draw on Sunday, with the two Premier League rivals unable to be separated through 98 or so minutes. Erling Haaland had given the visitors an early lead, before Pep Guardiola remarkably decided to park the bus to try and sneak the win. Those efforts went up in smoke in added time as Gabriel Martinelli scored to clinch a point for the Gunners. Having both slipped up domestically already this season, this wasn't quite a 'must win' affair for either side, but definitely more of a 'must not lose'. In the end, perhaps a draw in which neither team showed much attacking endeavour will please both parties. City seemed content to sit in and create chances on the break, while Arsenal didn't exactly throw the kitchen sink at their visitors in order to force the leveller. It was a pretty just outcome and neither can really have any complaints about how it ended.

Manchester United Vs Sabah Fc Preview By: Babatunde Ajibade (Manchester United correspondent) Facebook: Babatunde Olatunji AjibadeΒ Β Β  Twitter: ollyzjinx01Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β  Instagram: sir_ajirowo01 After a last-gasp minute goal by Maitland-Niles to draw the game level on Sunday, United have to dust off the disappointment and focus on our Champions League match against the team from Azerbaijan. It was disappointing because we could have won our last match, but the entire 11, including the manager, have to take the blame. How do we move forward? How do we avoid this type of scenario because it will happen again? That is something the entire board and coaching staff have to solve. Β  Manchester United will be aiming to begin their 2026-27 Champions League league phase campaign on a winning note when they welcome Azerbaijani outfit Sabah on Thursday night. Β  This is Man United's first Champions League campaign in three seasons, while it will be the first time that Sabah have competed at this level of European football. Β  Man United were absent from European competition in 2025-26 for the first time since 2014-15, and this will represent their first Champions League campaign in three seasons and their 26th overall, which is an English record. Β  In 2023-24, Man United finished fourth in a section which included Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray, and there is undoubtedly pressure on head coach Michael Carrick to deliver a positive Champions League campaign, but winning the trophy this season is a long shot. Β  Man United will also take on Atletico Madrid, Como, Roma, Sporting Lisbon, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Villarreal in the league phase of this season's Champions League. Β  Yes, we are back in the Champions League where we belong, but are we ready? Will we beat Sabah Fc, with our record against small teams? We were handed a favourable draw, but we all know this new generation of Manchester United players. These are the questions that linger on everybody's mind. Β  Sabah, meanwhile, began their 2026-27 Champions League campaign at the start of July, already taking to the field on eight occasions in the competition this season. Β  The Azerbaijani outfit have beaten TNS, KuPS, Aarhus and Hapoel Be'er Sheva in the 2026-27 Champions League qualifying rounds to secure a spot at this stage for the first time, and they will enter the match off the back of a thumping 5-0 win over Zira in the league. Β  Valdas Dambrauskas' side, who are the reigning Azerbaijani champions, have made a strong start to their domestic campaign, picking up nine points from three matches to top the division. Β  The Owls will be coming up against a Man United side that have only won one of their last seven Champions League group-stage matches, suffering four defeats in the process, and they can take confidence from the Red Devils' defensive problems this term. Β  Sabah have won six of their eight Champions League matches this season, keeping four clean sheets, and they are one of four teams in this season's competition making their debut in the league phase alongside Como, LASK and Viking. Β  There is no small team when it comes to the Champions League, and if we are to compare form, they are currently better than us. We have to start and end better. Who do you think will win? Β  Drop your predictions below. Manchester United record against Sabah Fc: Games won: 0 Games drawn: 0 Games lost: 0 Β  Β  Team News: (As of today, 10/09/2026) Manchester United: Amad Diallo, Matthias De Ligt, Ugarte, Tom Heaton, and Karl Darlow are out through injury.Β Β  Sabah Fc:Β  No injuries.Β Β  PREDICTION We can't expect an easy clean sheet from United considering the problems we have had at the back, but I still believe we have enough going forward to start our Champions League campaign with a win. After what happened in the Manchester derby, the most important thing is to get the job done early, control the game, and hopefully come out without any injuries. Manchester United 3–1 Sabah FC. Β

Β  What a tournament it has been. From the opening match right through to the final, it gave us unforgettable moments, stunning goals, major upsets and plenty of drama. Yes, the final ended up being one-sided, but that shouldn't take anything away from Spain's performance. It was another reminder of Spanish football at its very best. We got to see tiki-taka in full flow once again. Β  The third-place match produced plenty of goals, but for me, it felt more like a glorified friendly, so I never expected it to have any influence on how the final would unfold. Β  The match started exactly as many expected, with Spain dominating possession. However, I didn't think they would dominate Argentina to this extent. They completely controlled the game from start to finish and restricted Argentina to just two attempts, with none on target. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a team control a World Cup final like that. Β  The biggest talking point during normal time was Enzo FernΓ‘ndez's second yellow card, which reduced Argentina to 10 men. Fortunately for them, it came late in regulation time, allowing them to hold on and force extra time. Β  The breakthrough finally arrived in extra time when Nico Williams brilliantly pulled the ball back with a header for Ferran Torres, who calmly side-footed home to put Spain on course for only the second World Cup title in their history. Β  Argentina tried to find a response, but the closest they came was a wayward effort from Simeone that sailed over the bar. After 120 minutes, they had managed just two attempts and failed to register a single shot on target. Β  For me, Argentina simply got their game plan wrong. It looked like they believed they could frustrate Spain and somehow grind out a result, but Spain never allowed that to happen. Β  The Spanish midfield completely controlled the contest, and that was where the game was won. Their defence also deserves enormous credit. Conceding just one goal throughout the entire tournament is an incredible achievement. Β  And yes... I just love that Spain made Messi cry. Β  Thank you to everyone who followed this journey throughout the tournament. Β  Until the next World Cup. Β  Congratulations, Spain! Β  The Golden Boot race is officially over. Β  Kylian MbappΓ© finished as the tournament's top scorer with 10 goals and four assists, while Lionel Messi ended the competition with eight goals and four assists. Β  Just as expected, the third-place playoff played a huge role in deciding both the Golden Boot and the Top Assist awards. Β  Michael Olise finished the tournament with seven assists. Β  Congratulations once again to Spain on becoming world champions for the second time in their history. Β  Pau CubarsΓ deservedly won the Young Player of the Tournament award. Was he your choice? Β  Unai SimΓ³n also deservedly claimed the Golden Glove after conceding just one goal throughout the tournament. Β  Rodri was named Player of the Tournament following a series of outstanding performances from start to finish. I absolutely loved his display in the final. Β  Who scored the best goal of the tournament? For me, it's still Jude Bellingham's goal against France. Β  Which goalkeeper produced the save of the tournament? We witnessed some incredible stops over the course of the competition. Β  Overall, what did you make of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final? Β  Which moment stood out the most for you? Β  Drop your thoughts in the comments. Β  Β
